It seems like every afternoon about this time, I find myself struggling to stay awake. Caffeine makes me anxious so I stay away from it. Rooibos tea is my favourite hot drink, so I usually steep some to see if that helps. I still struggle. I sit with my work in front of me and close my eyes for a second, which turns into a minute or so until my head snaps up. And so it continues. Maybe a walk would be in order at that time? Something to test out next week!
I have had a little more success writing at the end of this week. Two days I have written about 500 words, the low end of my goal but writing nonetheless. Perhaps I'm getting somewhere!! I have been working diligently to edit my children's story so that goal is a good one. I may even be getting close to the finished product. I like what is happening with that project.
One poem written at the beginning of the week. I should go back and read it to see what I think. Usually my poems need editing before they feel "done". A lot of editing. But getting something down on paper is the part that feels really good. Expressing myself with the written word. That's what makes me tick. I need to remember that more often. Treasure the feeling, the experience every time.
So this week has been getting better as far as goals go. I have a feeling I'd better make that tea or I will be asleep at my desk before I finish writing this...
Maybe it was your vibe that put "brew tea" into my consciousness. It is always grand to find a fellow poet on ROW80. I have lately been writing "poetry scraps" more than complete poems. It is slightly frustrating... or perhaps I need to let go of perfection and just weave them together.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your goals are moving right along. Congrats on being here... enjoyed reading your words. Your writing energy is awesome! Word-Love!
Thanks for taking the time to comment - I keep reading all these blog entries but so far, not saying a word. All in good time! Very new to this public writing.
Deletedo you have time for quick nap? - helps (dont go to sleep) just let thoughts drift - there is some research just done saying thinking is easier when lying down:) otherwise sounds like you did alright this week- don't have to crank out 20000 words a day you know:) = all the best for coming week
ReplyDeletethanks for stopping by!! your blog looks awesome!
DeleteOooh! I didn't know you did poetry! That's pretty awesome! Getting some words down is better than not. I spent years not trying to write daily and I can say I regret it. So you are doing great because you are moving in the directions of your dreams. :D
ReplyDeleteAs for falling asleep, I know your pain there too. I have the same issue when I don't have enough stimulation, and it only gets worse when I haven't had enough sleep. Do your best with it and know you aren't alone there. Keep up the great work!
thanks Jayrod, you are a great cheerleader :)
DeleteI have such envy for those who can write poetry. I love writing, but poems never spring forth. Hope you are having a good writing week, and I'm looking forward to your next check in. Thanks for stopping by Depression Cookies this week!
